Front cover and double page spreads process

Since my main theme is 'Interaction Using Technology', I put this model with a lot of technology around him for my front cover. I did the shoot outside in a park because it's irony how in the past, kids, friends, family would go out and interact face to face and play together, but now, most interaction is done using technology, whether it being on the phone, text, Facebook, twitter, Skype etc... I was going to have the park in the background and have it blurred out a bit but it was awkward positioning and didn't look right.

I opened the first image up in Photoshop and just changed the levels and changed the hue so it looked kind of like Autumn and made it a bit brighter. I found a large file image of i-D magazine logo and pasted it onto the image and rasterised it so that I could quick select it and change the colour. I did the same with the barcode too and rotated it so that it was on its side like it is on most of the magazine front covers. I added the 'Just Play' in bold because on the front covers, there are bold words just placed there on nearly all of the cover fronts and to go with what the magazines layout normally is, so I put it on there. Also, my theme is on the lines of communication and having fun with it, so that is why I typed 'Just Play'. I typed it in red because it goes with the models hat. I then realised that the image was quite bare, and so I added some more information to it; the date, a price and a little paragraph about what the content will be.

This is my final front cover.
